A style of yoga that focuses on opening the connective tissues in the body, cartilage, ligaments, and joints. Yin Yoga involves holding deep stretches for longer periods of time (30 seconds to several minutes), relaxing the body in the poses, and finding stillness. This opening into the deep, dense tissues of the body provides expanded range of movement, healing and repair, lubrication of the joints, and opportunities for meditation. The energetic meridians of the body are believed to run in line with the body's connective tissues, allowing you to clear and revitalize energetic pathways from your toes to your fingertips.
* Unheated Classroom // Tuesday 7pm
This class integrates our physical yoga practice and pranayama (breathing practices) to increase our vital life force called Prana. By accessing and directing prana, we learn also to control the direction of our thoughts and actions. Because tantra is a method of expansion, the result of this practice is increased clarity, sense of purpose, and a fuller capacity to experience love, joy, and freedom.

Ashtanga Primary Series - Advanced
This is an advanced practice, advised that students have previous experience in vinyasa and/or ashtanga yoga asana. The Primary series as taught by K. Pattabhi Jois is practiced in its entirety at a group pace. This dynamic, precise, and progressive sequencing of yoga postures is accompanied by "free breathing with sound” as described by Sharath Jois. This practice quickly creates internal strength while resolving mental and structural imbalances. This class includes full and half lotus positions, arm balances, back bends, and headstands.
* Unheated Classroom // Thursday 5:30pm
A uniquely-formatted class which includes strengthening drills & a warm-up flow specifically designed to open parts of the body to then focus on arm balance and/or inversion postures of the week. Gain understanding of alignment and confidence to fly & fall while learning fun ways to integrate arm balances & inversions into your daily practice.
The last part of class is dedicated to an open-format practice time, giving students space for exploration & play under the guidance of the teacher.
(It is encouraged that students attending this class have a solid understanding of their own vinyasa practice in order to get the most out of this class format)

This class offers a nourishing, opening practice that incorporates props such as bolsters, tennis balls, and blocks to facilitate healing, the release of tight muscles, trigger points, and surrounding connective tissues.

Meditate + Flow
In this 75 minute class, we will deeply integrate the mind, body, and breath through yoga poses, pranayama breath work, and meditation practice. This class will also have a sangha element in which we will discuss what is coming up in yoga, meditation, and life. Spiritual teachers, and now scientific studies, have shown that focus on your breath enhances mental focus, supports emotional release, and guides you to your Authentic, Radiant Self. Join us and explore your yoga and meditation practice!

Karma Yoga (donation-based)
This is our only 100% cash/check donation-based class. We give all proceeds to a local non-profit that one of our amazing teachers founded. Small World Yoga is a 501(c)(3) that places qualified yoga teachers at outreach locations across middle Tennessee so that people who would not normally visit a yoga studio can still experience its mental, physical, and emotional benefits. Just by attending this class and giving any amount, you are empowering this organization to continue to make yoga more accessible in the greater Nashville area!

Yoga in Life
This once-monthly 75 minute class will incorporate meditations, reflective writing and personal inquiry to take the yoga practice from the mat to day to day life. We will gain insight into intentions and places we are stuck. Using this insight we open and heal ourselves and therefore all our relationships. All levels welcome. Please bring a journal and a writing utensil. There will be no yoga poses in this class, except for a comfortable seated position.
“The success of Yoga does not lie in the ability to perform postures but in how it positively changes the way we live our life and our relationships.” - T.K.V. Desikachar
